Why pets work so well as a single line
A single line has to describe a whole subject without shading or background, so it leans entirely on silhouette. Animals are almost pure silhouette: the outline of a cat curled on a chair, or a dog's head tilted to one side, is instantly recognisable on its own. That is why pet portraits tend to be among the most successful results.
Because the drawing comes from your photograph rather than a template, it keeps what makes your animal specific — a torn ear, a distinctive coat pattern, the particular angle of a head — instead of producing a generic breed illustration.
Choosing the photo
The best pet photos for this have three things: the animal clearly separated from what is behind it, reasonably even light, and the pet filling a good portion of the frame. A photo taken at roughly eye level reads better than one shot from above, because the silhouette is more characteristic.
Avoid photos with a busy background — a garden in full leaf, a patterned rug — since every leaf and fold becomes a line competing with your pet. If the only good photo you have is busy, crop in closer before uploading.
Upload a photo of your pet
JPEG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF all work. The first generation on a new account is free, so you can try the photo you have in mind before paying.
See the line it becomes
The photo is reduced to one continuous line in about 30 to 60 seconds. If it does not read well, the photo is almost always the reason — try another.
Order a print or the STL
Take it as a physical print shipped worldwide, or download the STL file and 3D print the same drawing yourself.
Dogs
Head-and-shoulders shots carry the breed and the temperament best. Ears and muzzle do most of the work.
Cats
Cats read well sitting or curled, where the outline of the back and tail describes the whole animal.
Pet and owner together
Works when the two are close in frame, so the line can travel from one subject to the other in one stroke.
In memory of a pet
Any clear photo works, including an older one. A framed line drawing is a common way to remember an animal.
Pets as gifts
A pet portrait is an unusually personal gift because it is made from a specific photograph — often one the recipient took themselves. It suits a birthday, a housewarming, or a memorial. See single-line art as a gift for other occasions, and note that the shipping address is collected separately from billing, so a print can go straight to the recipient.
Turning it into an object
The same drawing can be 3D printed, because a single raised line has a clean cross-section that prints reliably. If you would rather print it yourself, the 3D-printed portrait page covers how that works.

Frequently asked questions
What photo of my pet works best?
One clear animal against a plain background, photographed at roughly eye level. A photo where the pet fills a good part of the frame gives the cleanest line. At least 500×500 pixels and under 10MB.
Will the portrait actually look like my pet?
The line is derived from your own photo, so it keeps the particularities of your animal — the shape of the ears, the snout, the posture — rather than producing a generic dog or cat. That is why the source photo matters so much.
Can the portrait include my pet and me?
Yes. Keep the two of you close together in the frame so the line can travel between you in one continuous stroke. A single-line drawing cannot describe two subjects that are far apart.
What if my pet has passed away?
Many orders are made from a favourite photograph of a pet who is no longer here. Any clear photo works, including an older one, as long as the animal is reasonably visible.
Do you draw other animals besides cats and dogs?
Any animal with a recognisable outline works — cats, dogs, rabbits, horses, birds. Very round or very fluffy animals can be harder to read as a single line, so try the photo and look at the result before ordering.
Can I 3D print a pet portrait?
Yes. The digital STL file is made for 3D printing, so the same drawing can become a physical object. It is available immediately after payment for ₪10.
How much does a pet portrait cost?
A small print is ₪49, a large print is ₪89, and the digital STL file is ₪10. Shipping is ₪30 and free over ₪200. Checkout is charged in Israeli shekels.
